This strawberry banana smoothie is an easy, wholesome recipe made from fresh ingredients. It’s creamy, sweet, healthy and can be made with dairy or dairy-free. It’s the perfect summer smoothie!
Best Strawberry Banana Smoothie
One of the best ways to enjoy summer is drinking a cold and refreshing smoothie made from fresh ingredients. I’m definitely a smoothie lover as it’s so easy to toss a bunch of ingredients into my Vitamix and 30 seconds later have an amazing drink.
And with strawberries in abundance in the markets right now, it only makes sense to whip up this classic strawberry banana smoothie recipe. I can get fancy with smoothies and include chia seeds, collagen, hemp seeds and other fun ingredients, but a simple, straightforward smoothie is just as delicious.
So think of this strawberry banana smoothie as your little black dress. It’s a classic. Because what’s not to love about fresh, seasonal strawberries, sweet bananas and creamy yogurt?

Strawberry Banana Smoothie Ingredients
Want to know what’s in this delicious smoothie? Just a handful of fresh ingredients, including:
- fresh strawberries
- banana
- Greek yogurt
- milk
Want to make it dairy-free? See my tips below.
My Strawberry Banana Smoothie Tips
- Don’t use all frozen fruit. If you were to use both frozen strawberries and a frozen banana, you’re likely to end up with a super thick texture more similar to my Strawberry Frozen Yogurt recipe. So instead, use fresh strawberries and a frozen banana. If you only have frozen strawberries, let them thaw before using.
- Don’t add any sugar. It’s crazy that some recipes call for a sweetener with a full fruit smoothie. Mother nature has given us plenty of sweetness in the strawberries and banana so there’s no need to add extra sugar.
- Make it with dairy or dairy-free. You can make this strawberry banana smoothie with dairy or dairy-free/vegan. I’ve got recipes for both homemade yogurt and a dairy-free coconut yogurt. You can also use regular milk or my cashew milk or any healthy store-bought dairy-free milk or yogurt options as well.
- Don’t add ice. Using a frozen banana in the recipe keeps the drink cold, but it doesn’t water it down. Adding ice to smoothies makes them watery pretty quickly.
How to Make a Strawberry Banana Smoothie
It truly is as easy as adding the strawberries, frozen banana, milk and yogurt to your blender and blending until nice and creamy. If you make it as per the recipe below, it should be cold and drinkable but not too thick. The perfect consistency!

The composition is great and it tastes perfect! Thanks for the recipe!
So glad you enjoyed the recipe!
So good
Nice, simple recipe. I will say though regarding the ice/no ice discussion. I like some in mine just because I prefer a thinner consistency and don’t feel like it takes away from the flavor, and it chills the smoothie a bit.
Wow, I thought I had seen it all. I bought your book as a matter fact I bought five of them and I gave them to my friends, my daughter-in-law and a nurse everybody was quite surprised and now they’re all trying to cook. Thanks so much for buying my cookbook and making (and sharing) my recipes! I love that the healthy vibes are spreading. :)
I just wanted to know what size blending cup you use so I know I won’t over fill it.like 16oz, 18, 24oz ect?
Hi Chris – I haven’t used a blending cup with this recipe, so not sure what size is best. I’d start with the largest size though.
I literally just made this and it filled my 16oz cup perfectly.
Wonderful!
I made the strawberry smoothie for my daughter and she loved it
She asked me to make another one the next day
Thank you for all your recipes
Glad your daughter enjoyed this smoothie recipe Barbara!
Delicious! I add fresh basil to mine if I have it. Just a little extra flavor profile…..especially when basil is in abundance in the summer.
Love the idea of adding fresh basil!
This was simple and oh so delicious and creamy. I made the original and another version with blueberries ( I’m obsessed with blueberries) and spinach and both were incredible!
Could I use honey yogurt instead off Greek ?
That’s fine, although that will make it more sweeter.
Perfect first smoothie for our new blender. Perfect consistency and sweetness. Can’t wait to make more. This is the perfect base to start experimenting.
Happy you loved this smoothie, Sonya!
Great smoothie! I added flax seeds and collagen powder for youth, mix salad greens for energy and oat milk instead of dairy.
For calcium intake raw sesame seeds are the thing to go to! They have more calcium than milk, cheese etc. Nature provides!
Amazing!!! Made with only one cup of strawberries instead of two because I wanted just one serving. Definitely gonna be making it again:)
Glad you enjoyed this strawberry banana smoothie :)
Omg this smoothie Is the best movie that I’ve ever made I put instead of Greek yogurt I put coconut yogurt and then instead of milk I put half-and-half and more bananas and a little bit of sugar it was perfect thank you so much for this recipe😊☺️
Glad you’re loving this smoothie recipe!
My son is super picky about his smoothies, and he loves this one! It is just the right amount of thickness for him and super tasty with such few ingredients!
just a question is the nutrition says 198 calories and two servings. Would it be 198 calories for each serving? Or for the whole recipe?
The nutritional information is always for one serving.
First recipe with my brand new Vitamix blender. Thank you Lisa! You`re great! Greetings from Romania.
Amazing! Hope you’re loving your Vitamix now :)
I sure do! I use it every day :)
It’s so good! Followed the recipe exactly. Next time I will only thin it out with a little more milk. This was enough for me and my 2yo. Thanks!
I made a half serving to try it, vanilla yogurt, milk, frozen strawberries fresh banana and it was thick, next time I’ll try with double the milk, I think that will thin it up slightly so it can go through a straw easier. Or maybe the extra milk in the full serving will be better. Definitely no sugar needed either
This smoothie is meant to be on the thicker side. But you can always thin it down by adding more milk and less yogurt :)
It said frozen banana do I put it in the freezer
Yep! You can slice bananas, put them in a freezer-safe bag, and let it freeze overnight.
This is the very best smoothie I’ve ever made! I used frozen strawberries and a ripe banana since that’s what I had on hand and it was perfectly thick and delicious.
Glad you’re loving this smoothie!
I had given up on smoothies but this recipe was amazing. I added a little bit of honey and it was excellent!
Where is the bulk of the sugar coming from? i know part is from the fruit but as a diabetic I am concerned about the 20 grams of sugar.
Thanks
George
Bananas have a high sugar content compared to other fruits.
Can you make extra and store
This will last for a day in the fridge. Just make sure to give it a stir before drinking the next day.
Delicious and perfect recipe. Great tip about using frozen and nonfrozen fruits. Thank you!
Also works with blueberries i/o strawberries as I tried that day 2.
Delicious, don’t add sugar, trust the process
Hi Lisa. I just started watching your YouTube videos & think they’re great! When I order a smoothie at a shop I get banana, peanut butter, granola & almond milk. I’ve tried to duplicate this at home but can’t seem to get it right. Any suggestions on measurements for this ? Thank you, Karol
I’ll have to keep that in mind for a new smoothie recipe :)
What brand of greek yogurt do you recommend?
I usually buy Stonyfield brand.
Lysa, like all your recipes this smoothie is great, I loved it.
Can you leave the yoghurt out?
You can if you’d like, but it will make it a little less creamy. I would also replace it with another 1/2 cup of milk to keep the ratios the same.
It is very good yes? Much like
Taste is phenomenal! I never thought of putting Greek yogurt in a smoothie! I also used vanilla honey Greek yogurt, and my picky 7 year old loves it!
Happy to hear this satisfied the picky eaters!
This is nice, l love everything here
Hope you enjoy this smoothie Emily!
Sooo yummy! I’ve making it for the past few days. By far the best recipe!
Definitely a smoothie recipe to keep on hand! Glad you enjoyed it Alisa :)
Wondeful recipe, i used vanilla yogurt instead and frozen strawberry/banana blend with 1 fresh banana and a squirt of honey and i love it and it is toddler approved :)
What is a one serving? 8 ounces?
Hi Kaitlyn – I would say it’s about 1 cup.
This is the first smoothie my 15 month daughter has ever had and she loved it! I love it too! Thanks so much for your great recipes!
Happy to hear this strawberry banana smoothie was a win Kelly!
My daughter complained it was sour “limey”. Maybe bc of the Greek yogurt??
Can I do the recipient with frozen strawberries and room temperature bananas
Yep, that’s totally fine!
